Dvinsky Forest Conservation Project

Overview

The JI project area comprises 68,934 ha of prevailing primary taiga forest in the Northern Dvina and Pinega watershed. The area has been selected by WWF Russia and the Administration of Arkhangelsk Region as it is located in the central part of one of the biggest intact forests in Europe and for its high conservation value. It is the last forest area that has not yet been leased to logging companies. Although plans have already been developed by the Forestry Complex Department to include the forest into a logging concession area, with the financial help of a JI project activity it will be possible to permanently preserve this pristine forest from logging.
