Contando un total de 10 millones de hectáreas de bosques ya deforestados en nuestro territorio a lo largo de nuestra historia, consecuentemente el Ministerio del Ambiente (MINAM), bajo la batuta del Ministro Antonio Brack Egg, ha creado el Programa Nacional de Conservación de Bosques para la Mitigación del Cambio Climático, iniciativa que propone la protección indefectible de 54 millones de hectáreas (ha) de los 72 millones de ha de bosques tropicales con los que cuenta el país.
