Various working groups have discussed the state of the art in research on forest and agricultural systems as carbon sinks, as well as the future of these systems in relation to the Kyoto Protocol and emission reduction requirements of the signatory countries .
Recently an international conferences "Agroforestry systems as sinks of greenhouse gases," was held in Madrid, Spain, and brought together a group of 60 invited experts who contributed their experiences and strategies on the role of agroforestry systems in mitigating climate change effects.
