The Morning Call The Bethlehem Authority and Nature Conservancy have agreed to protect 20,500 acres of forests and fight climate change for the next 50 years through the Working Woodlands program — bringing revenue to the city without increases in taxes.
The Nature Conservancy will provide Forest Stewardship Council Certification, which gives forests a label of sustainability, which enables them to command a higher price for timber, said Misty Edgecomb, media relations manager for the Nature Conservancy. The initiative also will create a new source of revenue through the sale of forest carbon credits by the carbon development and marketing firm Blue Source through the Carbon Market Exchange.
