Winrock International is urgently recruiting applicants for the position of Team Leader, RENEWAL, to work on a $2 Million dollar, four year field-based project with its Forestry and Natural Resources Management (FNRM) unit. The responsibilities, duties, and qualifications are described in the attached position description.

The RENEWAL program will promote transboundary strategies for biodiversity conservation, improved livelihoods and sustainable natural resource management (NRM) in the Upper Guinean Forest ecosystem of Guinea and Sierra Leone. RENEWAL will contribute to improved livelihoods for local communities adjacent to the forest ecosystems. Special attention will be given to the participation of women in conservation and income generating activities supported by the project. Development of community-based forestry management models will protect habitat for priority wildlife species and demonstrate REDD+ mechanisms to compensate local resource users for activities that reduce or avoid greenhouse gas emissions from forestry and land use. If awarded, the RENEWAL program would fall under the US Forest Service International Program’s STEWARD program in transboundary zones in West Africa.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Team Leader will be responsible for the overall project management, including field team mobilization; technical leadership; development and implementation of work plans, operational budgets, performance monitoring plans; and project quarterly and annual reports; small grants management; oversee M&E; communication and coordination with the donor and partner organizations, and ensuring achievement of project results and objectives. The position will require frequent travel to remote field location sites within the project area in Guinea and Sierra Leone
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
§ Identify promising and innovative opportunities for further development within the program.
§ Provide overall technical leadership to achieve the results of the project.
§ Provide supervision, support, and direction to long- and short-term staff.
§ Monitor program indicators, evaluate program results and make recommendations for improvement in program implementation.
§ Analyze project impact and challenges to adaptively manage the project to meet or exceed results.
§ Ensure women and marginalized groups are beneficiaries of the project.
§ Prepare annual work plans and progress reports, and monitor the implementation of these plans.
§ Establish contacts with partners and clients to ensure coordinated implementation of project activities and represent the Winrock Team at key meetings.
§ Interact directly and on a regular basis with the USFS (and USAID as required) to coordinate program direction.
§ Participate in regular field visits to the project areas to assure project progress towards activity objectives and goals.
§ Ensure cooperation and coordination with other STEWARD priority zone partners and contractors.
§ Coordinate and communicate on a regular basis with Winrock’s Home Office.
QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND:
Education: Minimum Bachelor’s degree with Master’s level preferred in forestry, forest management, natural resource policy, environmental science, biodiversity conservation or similar relevant discipline.
Work Experience: Position requires a minimum of four years of overseas work experience, preferably in West Africa. Peace Corps experience in agroforestry or forestry programs would be a distinct asset. Experience working on donor-funded development projects is required.
Skills: Must be fully bilingual in English and French in order to conduct business and write reports in both languages. Must be computer literate, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Other: Willingness to reside in a remote part of the country.
