The People & Ecosystems Program at the World Resources Institute (WRI) seeks a results-oriented individual with excellent writing, communication and analytical skills for a full-time, paid internship position to support several projects focused on coastal ecosystems. Projects will include Reefs at Risk Revisited – a map-based analysis of threats to the world’s coral reefs, Coastal Capital – economic valuation of coral reefs, and a new project distilling key success factors in maintaining healthy coral reefs.

Responsibilities: |
|
- Review literature and conduct interviews on coral reef success stories and prepare short summaries for team, conduct other research as needed
- Work with WRI’s External Relations team and external partners to coordinate outreach activities (for mid-2010 launches of Coastal Capital Jamaica and Reefs at Risk Revisited)
- Assist team in drafting, editing and proofreading publications and other project documents
- Maintain and update project website pages
- Some administrative duties (managing grants and contracts, managing project budgets, event and schedule coordination, internal coordination with WRI support departments)
- Coordinate fundraising and donor stewardship (draft and review proposals and donor reports)
- Support other activities as needed

| Qualifications: |
|
- Undergraduate or Master’s degree in environmental science, public policy, environmental economics, natural resource management or other relevant field
- Familiarity with or working experience on marine policy issues
- Very strong writing skills and excellent academic performance
- Proven research skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written English
- Excellent communication and computer skills (Microsoft Office, internet research)
- Ability to work well in a team, juggle multiple priorities, and work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision
- Strong quantitative and financial analytical skills are a plus
- Experience with GIS is a plus
- Financial and/or budgeting experience is a plus
- Website maintenance experience is a plus
